She attended college at the Detroit Institute of Technology and received an “Honorable Dismissal.” due to the college closing. Determine to graduate from a university, after raising two wonderful sons (Gerald and Phillip Edwards); she returned to school. Phyllis graduated from Lawrence Technological University and obtained her Bachelor of Science in Business Management. She worked conscientiously and meticulous in all fields in which she held positions as a customer service representative in banking and retailing, a mail carrier for United States Postal Service, data entry operator and tax preparer. Mrs. Berry worked in as a Cafeteria Assistant with the Detroit Board of Education. As a temporary placement worker she was assigned a clerical position in the attendance office at Cherry Hill School of Performance Arts. Mrs. Berry filled the position of Administrative Coordinator for Charter School Administration Services, whereas she managed and guided students from various charter schools to attend a private camp in Lithonia, GA for a week sabbatical from school. Phyllis assisted in dressing the students for success mentally and physically. She assisted the teachers in choosing students who were willing to learn; and capable to utilize their talents to become more successful in life. After Mrs. Berry collected the students’ class assignments, scheduled the dates, created a roster, and made presentations to the parents, teachers, and administrators. She created a power point presentation for “how to dress for success” also an instructional manual for the next administrative coordinator. She believes in thinking and dressing for success along with hard work and perseverance “one can make it.” Phyllis revisited school and received a Master of Science in Organizational Leadership and Administration from Concordia University, Ann Arbor, MI. She was determined to achieve an outstanding grade point average and graduated with a 3.97 GPA. Currently, a substitute teacher who encourages and motivates the students with her motto “You can do better; if you want better in life.” Phyllis enjoys building relationship, and being active (Evangelist and Sunday School Teacher) with her church family, under the leadership of Rev. Dr. Lorenzo Edwards at the Holy Cross Missionary Baptist Church. She holds the office of Third Vice-President in the Fellowship District Women Auxiliary. The Fellowship District Women Auxiliary assist women in sustaining a spirit fill life, support youth in need of scholarships and provide for those in needs of physical goods. Her husband looks at her as a friend and administrative assistant. As a mother admiring her independent daughters in loves Yer Edwards and Nelita Taplet. As a person who is a loving grandmother to five grandchildren (Tiovana Taplet, Cameron, Kinsley, Titus, and Tythan). Phyllis’ father Pastor Edwards refers to her as a “monkey wrench” adjustable and willing to serve in difficult situations, and get the job done. Her siblings view her as a committed and dependable sister; who loves to do for others.
